The Illinois football program announced Saturday morning that senior starting quarterback Brandon Peters and redshirt freshman tight end Griffin Moore tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. They will be sidelined for 21 days, according to Big Ten Conference protocol, including Saturday against Purdue.

Illinois' game against Purdue will still be played, though the school announced that due to contract tracing several other players will also be sidelined Saturday and next week against Minnesota. The program did not disclose the condition of Peters or Moore nor did it identify the other players sidelined due to contract tracing.

The Wisconsin vs. Nebraska game was canceled for this week after the Badgers football program had numerous positive COVID-19 tests among its players and staff, the school announced Wednesday, including coach Paul Chryst. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said Saturday on ESPN's "College GameDay" that a total of 10 staff and 12 players have tested positive.  Wisconsin opened its season with a victory over Illinois in Week 1.
