A University of Central Florida football player is accused of raping an intoxicated person inside a dorm room, officials say.

Demetreius Mayes Jr., 18, a freshman linebacker for the Knights, is charged with sexual battery of a physically helpless person and is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond.

The alleged rape happened in Tower 4, after the people involved attended a party off campus.

According to an arrest affidavit, several witnesses claimed they told Mayes not to have sex with the victim and went into his room in an attempt to stop him from “making a huge mistake.”

"We’re dedicated to a culture of care that starts by believing the brave survivors who seek our assistance. This survivor’s well-being will continue to be a priority for our department and our university,” UCF police Chief Carl Metzger said.

UCF football coach Josh Heupel said Mayes has been suspended indefinitely.

“From what we know so far on this matter I'm upset and disappointed. This has no place in our program. Demetrius Mayes is suspended from all UCF football activities indefinitely. We are focused on ensuring that we provide compassion and support for everyone outside our program that has been affected by this,” Mayes said.

Mayes went to Miami Northwestern High School, where he won a Class 6A Football State Championship.
