Carson Wentz calls shout-out from Miss America 'cool'

Next time, Miss Universe. © Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports Next time, Miss Universe. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz admits he was flattered by Cara Mund, a fellow Bismark, N.D. native, giving him a shout-out after she was crowned Miss America last weekend.

“That was cool,” Wentz said of the mention from Mund, via ESPN. “Obviously we’re very similar in age (Mund is 23 and Wentz is 24). But the idea of playing this game and having this platform, the hope is to be a role model and an inspiration to kids. Obviously it’s a little different when you’re close to the same age like that, but I think that’s just the cool part of this game to show it can be done no matter where you come from, whatever it is you’re pursuing in life.”

During her acceptance speech, Mund, who became the first-ever Miss America to hail from North Dakota, indicated Wentz inspired her to pursue her dreams.

“I said, ‘If Carson Wentz can do it, Miss North Dakota Cara Mund can become Miss America,'” Mund said during her acceptance speech.

It’s hardly surprising that Wentz would feel some provincial pride over a fellow North Dakotan accomplishing such a remarkable achievement. Not only that, Wentz and Mund attended the same high school at the same time.

“It’s really cool for her. I don’t follow Miss America too much, but obviously now I’ve heard all about it,” Wentz said. “That’s pretty cool for Bismarck, for Century High School. My buddy called me the other night when she won and he’s like, ‘Yeah, you’re old news now in Bismarck.’ ”

That’s probably not the case, but props to Wentz for sharing the Bismark spotlight with the newly crowned Miss America.
