Patriots receiver Julian Edelman plans to mount a vigorous defense in a suspension-appeal hearing Monday, ESPN.com reported, citing unidentified sources.

His reported four-game suspension is for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

The two key prongs of Edelman's appeal are, first, the drug for which he tested positive wasn't one league drug testers recognized (per MMQB.com), and, second, he will claim the documentation and delivery of his test results were mishandled, ESPN's source said.

Edelman, 32, missed all of the 2017 season because of a torn ACL but has been participating regularly in all of the Patriots' offseason activities.

ESPN noted that the recent addition of high-profile New York-based attorney Alex Spiro to his defense team in the case could signal that Edelman like New England QB Tom Brady in Deflategate — could end up pursuing the issue in court should his appeal be denied.
