It's been nearly four whole decades since the United States shocked the entire world with the most infamous Olympic performance in all of sport history. Herb Brooks and the 1980 US Olympic men's hockey squad defeated the Soviet Union in the semifinals 39 years ago today, solidifying themselves in history as a bunch of rag-tag amateur players that pulled off a miracle against the most fearsome team in the world.

The Miracle on Ice is one of the most special moments in sports, and it defined an entire generation of hockey players.

The 1980 United States Olympic squad. Between good ol' "OC" Jack O'Callahan, Mike Eruzione or the brick wall that is Jimmy Craig, the whole team was a bunch of lovable guys that took the hockey world by storm and inspired an entire country amid the Cold War.

Hopefully, the NHL will travel back to the Olympics one day so we can witness a story half as good as the Miracle on Ice.

Nothing will ever beat the goosebumps from first watching the boys make history.

If you have a free hour today, why not go on YouTube and watch the complete game in honor of the greatest hockey victory of all time. It's been 39 years since their semifinal victory, but it's lasted a lifetime amongst hockey fans across the globe.
