The Philadelphia Flyers held their home opener Wednesday against the New Jersey Devils — and the Wells Fargo Center's resident orange monster, Gritty, arrived already in midseason form.

The second-year mascot sauntered down to the Plexiglas boards surrounding the Devils' side of the rink during warmups to get in defenseman P.K. Subban's head with a sign that suggested Subban's fiancée — former alpine skier Lindsey Vonn — would be better off dating Gritty himself.

If Subban noticed Gritty's antics while he performed his exciting pregame routine for the Philly crowd, he did not appear to give the mascot any attention.

The Flyers also gave fan favorite Wayne Simmonds, now a Devils forward, a video tribute during a break to celebrate his first visit to Philadelphia since he was traded to the Nashville Predators last season.

Simmonds, 31, played almost eight full seasons with the Flyers from 2011-19. He tallied 378 total points in 584 games in Philadelphia and reached his single-season scoring high, 60 points, twice (2013-14, 2015-16) in orange and black.
