Contractor steals $4,000 deposit from woman
2 Wants To Know | It's not unusual for a contractor to ask for some money up front before starting a job. In this case, the contractor pocketed the $4,000 deposit and took off. https://bit.ly/3b5wCnS
Lynn MacMartin decided it was time to replace her old wooden deck with a concrete patio. She did her research. She got different quotes from different contractors and eventually settled on one. The salesperson came out to the house and MacMartin signed a contract.
“He was a good salesman. I liked him,” MacMartin said.
The contract called for MacMartin to pay $4,000 up front and upon completion, pay the remaining $9,000. The plan was to start the work sometime around November 2020.
Several weeks passed, but no one had even shown up to do the work. MacMartin called the salesman, who said he wasn't with the company anymore and was unable to help. That's when she called 2 Wants To Know.
We spent the next few months trying to reach or find the company owners. No response. One of the phone lines had been disconnected.
MacMartin was able to get her money back, and it's because she made a smart decision when she first paid for the deposit. Here's what she did: https://bit.ly/3b5wCnS
