ESPN's apparent decision to include Lia Thomas in a women's appreciation highlight is trending on social media.

Thomas, who dominated inside the pool at Penn last year, transitioned and joined the women's team after previously competing on the men's side.

The former Penn swimmer is now trending on social media on Sunday.

A former competitor of Thomas is trending on Twitter for her take on the decision.

Thomas spoke candidly about her decision.

“Being trans is not a choice,” Thomas said. “I didn’t have any other choice because not transitioning was not leading me anywhere.”
