While COVID-19 still plagues the United States, much of the rest of the world has dealt with it effectively and responsibly. Therefore, European leagues are open for transfer business, with the window lasting from July 27 to October 5. Yahoo Soccer will keep you updated on the latest news and reports during an amended silly season.

Jota joins Liverpool from Wolves

Liverpool’s attack just got even more potent. Diogo Jota was officially introduced at Anfield on Saturday, signing a “long-term” contract with the reigning Premier League champions.

The BBC reports that the deal is for five years, and that Wolverhampton Wanderers received a transfer fee of just shy of $53 million.

Jota is a versatile forward who can reasonably play any position in Liverpool’s front three. The fearsome trident of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané helped propel Liverpool to its first English title in 30 years last season, and depth has been viewed as a necessary component of this season’s quest to repeat.

The 23-year-old Portuguese and has made 67 Premier League appearances for Wolves the past two campaigns, scoring seven goals last term.

Liverpool opened its title defense with a madcap 4-3 win over Leeds last weekend, and while defensive reinforcements would seem to be a bigger priority, it’s hard to poke holes in Jota’s signing. The window doesn’t shut for another couple weeks, anyway.
