Extraordinary video footage shows the terrifying moment a plane comes in to land just feet above tourists’ heads in Greece.

The British Airways Embraer E190 aircraft was filmed approaching the runway at Skiathos Airport, dubbed the “European St Maarten” by aviation enthusiasts due to its low landing.

The Caribbean island’s airport is famously just feet from the sea, and beachgoers can walk up to its fence as planes take off.

In the footage from Skiathos, where the airport has become one of the main tourist attractions, people are seen ducking for cover as a plane comes into land.

YouTube user Cargospotter, who posted it online last week, said: “Low landings and jetblasts can be observed on a daily basis and last week we filmed an incredible low British Airways Embraer E190 landing.

“The people who were watching the planes were pushed from the wall by the wake turbulence of the Embraer.”

People are warned not to get too close to the runway, with a sign visible in the video which reads: “Danger. Please keep away from aircraft blast.”

Cargospotter said because of the nature of the airport the largest plane that is allowed to land is a Boeing 757.
