15 Best Winter Festivals All Across the U.S.

Country Living Logo By Natalie Schumann of Country Living | Slide 1 of 16: After the hectic holiday magic fades away, you and your family are most likely left with several more weeks (at least!) of chilly weather, snow, sleet, and more (depending on where you live, of course). Winter weather can mean shoveling endless snow, preparing your house for freezing temperatures, and bundling up with plenty of cozy layers. Many of us like to combat the cold by hunkering down inside with a cup of hot cocoa, a delicious sweet treat, or a fun indoor activity like a cross-stitch, craft, or puzzle. (There’s also nothing quite like reading a book by a crackling fireplace when the winter wind is howling outside!) For those of us who are more adventurous, however, an outdoor activity (like sledding!) might be just the ticket to fight off those winter blues. Enter: the winter festival! We’ve put together a list of our favorite chilly destinations, all of which put cold-weather magic front and center, featuring everything from twinkly lights to winter sports and maple syrup to dogsled racing. These snowy cities, ranging in location from sea to (frozen) sea, bring together winter-lovers from all over the world to compete (think ice sculpting showcases and ski races) and revel in the frosty temperatures together. Pack your best winter coat and mittens—and don't forget your canine friends!—and get ready to embark on a fun winter adventure of arctic proportions.
