X-Rays Reveal Fascinating Discovery Inside Ancient Egyptian Mummy
An affluent afterlife
Scientists have used X-rays to ‘digitally unwrap’ a 2,300-year-old mummy, revealing the fabulous riches lying within. The still-unopened mummy contains the body of a teenage boy from an extremely wealthy family, as attested by the 49 (mostly gold) amulets buried with him to ease his passage into the afterlife. The ancient Egyptians believed that the journey to the afterlife was long and perilous, and various artifacts and trinkets were often woven into the mummies of wealthy individuals to protect their souls along the way.
