For his first stand-up special in nearly a decade, Chris Rock didn’t hold back. In Tamborine, which was released early Wednesday morning on Netflix, the comedian takes on many hot-button issues, while also delving into his own personal life and mistakes, including cheating on his ex-wife and his self-described porn addiction.

Rock doesn’t waste any time jumping into the deep end, opening the 64-minute special by wondering why cops don’t shoot a white kid every now and then “just to make it look good.” He proceeds to weigh in on everything from gun control to Donald Trump to religion. But the back half of Tamborine is where Rock really opens up.

The special takes its name from Rock’s comparison of being in a relationship to being in a band: “Sometimes you sing lead, and sometimes you’re on tambourine. And if you’re on tambourine, play it right. Play it with a f—ing smile, because no one wants to see a mad tambourine player.” It turns out he didn’t play the tambourine right, as he admits he was “not a good husband.”

Rock then discusses his divorce from Malaak Compton-Rock after 18 years of marriage. “It’s my fault, because I’m a f—ing a****le,” he says. “I didn’t listen. I wasn’t kind. I had an attitude, I thought, ‘I pay for everything, I can do what I want.’ That s— don’t f—ing work. I just thought I was the s—. I didn’t play the tambourine.”

This leads to Rock confessing that he was unfaithful and slept with three different women on the road. “It’s f—ed up,” he says. “When guys cheat, it’s like we want something new. But then you know what happens? Your woman finds out, and now she’s new — she is never the same again. So now you have new, but you have a bad new.”

He continues, “Some of these lessons you’ve just got to learn. Like, I brought this s— on myself. Nobody told me to go ho up. I brought this s— on myself, and you’ve got to learn some lessons, some man lessons.”

After talking about his marriage, Rock discusses his new life as a single man, including an embarrassing encounter with Rihanna. “You ever forget how old you are?” he asks the crowd. “Rihanna looked at me like I was one of her aunts. She didn’t even register me as a d—-carrying member of society. Like, I would have had an easier time f—ing Aretha Franklin.”

But now that he’s back in the world of dating, Rock promises he’s done being unfaithful. Well, “Unless Rihanna …”

Tamborine is now available to stream on Netflix.
