It will take a little longer for “How to Train Your Dragon 3” to fly into theaters.

The sequel in the popular animated franchise hits theaters on March 1, 2019, nearly a year after it was originally slated for release, DreamWorks Animation said Monday. That gives it a one-week jump on “Captain Marvel,” a comic-book adventure featuring Brie Larson. “How to Train Your Dragon 3” was originally supposed to open on May 18, 2018. That would have put it a week before a Han Solo, “Star Wars” spinoff film.

Director Dean DeBlois, who oversaw the previous two “Dragon” films, will return for the sequel.

In addition, Oriental DreamWorks’ “Everest” will open on Sept. 27, 2019.  The film follows a group of misfits who undertake an epic journey to reunite a magical creature with his family atop the world’s tallest mountain.

The moves follow Comcast’s $3.8 billion purchase of DreamWorks Animation. That sale will put the animation studio under the umbrella of Universal, the same company that oversees “Despicable Me”-maker Illumination Entertainment. Last month, DreamWorks Animation announced it had cancelled “Croods 2,” a follow-up to its 2013 comedy hit that was slated to hit theaters in 2017.
