‘The Originals’ & ‘iZombie’ Renewed By The CW

It’s good news for the two midseason CW series whose fate had not been decided. The Vampire Diaries’ spinoff The Originals and Rob Thomas’ iZombie both are getting another season on the CWThe Originals will return for a fifth season and iZombie for season 4.

The pickups brings the number of CW series renewed for next season to 11. The network is bringing back every show except for canceled freshmenNo Tomorrow and Frequency and veterans The Vampire Diaries and Rein, which are ending their runs this season.

The Originals had been the more vulnerable of the two as there had been discussion whether the spinoff would be able to stand on its own continue after mothership The Vampire Diaries had ended its run. But The Originals has done respectable ratings business on Friday where it succeeded TVD.

The Originals follows Klaus Mikaelson and his family in New Orleans. Joseph Morgan stars alongside Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood and Riley Voelkel.

The series hails from My So-Called Company, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Julie Plec and Leslie Morgenstein are executive producers.

Based on characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo, iZombie is from Spondoolie Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Rob Thomas, Diane Ruggiero-Wright, Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge. It stars Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, David Anders and Aly Michalka.
