(500) Days of Summer

Slide 1 of 8

American Apparel Amour"Paper Heart," "(500) Days of Summer," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" Maybe it's all those teenage girls mooning over the "Twilight" series, but the swoony complications of young love were all the rage this summer, no vampire required. "Paper Heart" continued the amorous adventures of Michael Cera ("Juno," "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist"). In this mockumentary, Charlene Yi plays herself and searches for something she's puzzled about -- oh yes, that would be love. The good "(500) Days of Summer" starring talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel proved to be much more interesting, a movie in which a boy meets a girl who doesn't actually believe in love, and is quite realistically aggravating in the process. And then there was "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince," which yes, yes, was about his wizardry and such. But as little Harry has grown up he has been dealing with some summer loving via Hogwarts chum Ron Weasley's sister, Ginny. Since the movie has been holding strong, the young love angle hasn't hurt it any. Let's just see what happens when he goes to wizard college. Perhaps Todd Phillips will direct that one: "Harry Potter and Mike Tyson's Magical Tiger"? (Fox Searchlight)
