Three months ago, Alec Baldwin declared in a New York magazine cover story, "I just can't live in New York anymore." Maybe he should have pulled up stakes then. The volatile actor, 56, was arrested on Tuesday morning in Manhattan after he was pulled over for riding his bike the wrong way down a one-way street and mouthing off to the arresting officers.

"The officers approached him and told him that he was riding the wrong way on the street [16th Street near Fifth Avenue] and asked him for ID," an NYPD spokesman tells the New York Daily News. "But he didn't have any ID on him. He then began to act belligerent to police."

In Touch has photos of Baldwin, in shorts and a visor, being handcuffed by a pair of female officers. One witness tells the mag that the typically hotheaded star was "calm and quiet" when he was put in the police cruiser, while another says he "went ballistic on the cops, screaming at them" at the start of the encounter.

At the station house, he allegedly kvetched, "How old are these officers? They don't even know who I am."

Baldwin was released from custody after being issued a summons for disorderly conduct and riding his bike the wrong way. The actor is due in court on July 24.

He didn't waste any time taking to Twitter to rant about his bicycle bust. He called out the arresting officer by name and badge number, railing that she "arrested me and handcuffed me for going the wrong way on Fifth Ave. Meanwhile, photographers outside my home ONCE AGAIN terrified my daughter [9-month-old Carmen] and nearly hit her with a camera. The police did nothing."

Raged Baldwin, "New York City is a mismanaged carnival of stupidity that is desperate for revenue and anxious to criminalize behavior once thought benign."

According to the New York Times, the Baldwin incident came just as the city began a crackdown on traffic infractions.
