Take a seat on the Iron Throne, Game of Thrones: Amazon is about to launch its own big-budget fantasy series.

The streaming service has given an eight-episode series order to Carnival Row, a “neo-Victorian fantasy” set in a world where humans and mythical creatures co-exist, TVLine has learned. The hour-long drama series will follow the investigation into a series of unsolved murders in a neo-Victorian city that’s already boiling over with tensions between man and creature. Carnival Row — which, at one time, had the ever-busy Guillermo del Toro attached — will begin filming in the fall of 2018, for a planned 2019 release.

Teen Wolf executive producer Rene Echevarria will write and serve as showrunner, with Paul McGuigan (Luke CageSherlock) on board to direct. Echevarria is a longtime sci-fi/fantasy vet, with producing credits on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Dark Angel and The 4400 (which he created).

Here’s the full Carnival Row synopsis:

Carnival Row is a fantasy-noir set in a neo-Victorian city. Mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland have gathered in the city, and tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population. We follow the investigation of a string of unsolved murders which are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists.
