6/17/2014

Author Stefanie Zweig has died at the age of 81. The German-Jewish writer passed away on Friday (25Apr14) after a brief illness. Zweig began her career as a journalist in the late 1940s before becoming a novelist. She penned more than two dozen books, but was perhaps best known for her 1995 release Nowhere in Africa, in which she recalled how her family had fled the Nazi prosecution of Jews before World War Two and relocated to Kenya, where they ran a farm. The book was adapted into a movie, directed by Caroline Link, and won Germany the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2003.
