A&E's "Psycho" prequel series "Bates Motel" wrapped up its second season on Monday night, scoring solid numbers but nonetheless falling short of its Season 1 finale.

Monday night's season finale of the series, which stars Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga as Norman and Norma Bates, respectively, drew 2.3 million total viewers — equal to the Season 2 average, but off slightly from the 2.7 million total viewers that the Season 1 finale drew.

In the 18-49 demographic most sought by advertisers, the "Bates Motel" finale had 1.2 million viewers, up slightly from the Season 2 average, but again short of the 1.5 million demo viewers that the Season 1 capper drew.

The second season of "Bates Motel," which has been renewed for a third run, premiered to 3.1 million total viewers, setting a series high for the drama.
