Frank Cooper, who is leaving as BuzzFeed’s chief marketing officer at the end of 2016 after a year and a half at the company, has been hired by asset-management firm BlackRock in the same capacity.

Prior to joining BuzzFeed in June 2015, Cooper was CMO at PepsiCo, where he had worked for more than 12 years, and had previously served as VP of interactive marketing at AOL.

Cooper will join New York-based BlackRock in January as senior managing director and CMO, reporting to CEO Larry Fink. In a memo from Fink to the company’s staff, according to the Wall Street Journal, the chief exec cited Cooper’s experience using “new marketing technologies to help organizations — from global consumer companies to technology startups — to drive growth.”

BlackRock’s previous global head of marketing and communications, Linda Robinson, is moving into a vice chairman role.
