Cilla Black scrapped sitcom due to co-star's health woes

6/17/2014

Veteran singer Cilla Black scrapped her sitcom because of her co-star Paul O'grady's worsening health. The singer-turned-TV host was set to team up with the British funnyman to play a brother and sister in Led Astray, a BBC sitcom which would have marked her first comedy acting project since the 1970s. However, Black axed the show after deciding the long filming hours were risking her longtime friend's health. O'Grady has suffered from heart problems over the years and was hospitalised in November (13) after an angina attack. She tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "I was looking forward to the sitcom but the week after we filmed the pilot he had heart problems again and we talked it over and just thought, it's not worth the long hours. He put the kibosh on it (ended it). "We just agreed that it was too much of a risk - a week later he was in hospital. It just wasn't worth it in the end, I just don't want to be responsible for anything happening to him."
