After inking a first-look deal with HBO in January, Darren Aronofsky has come out with his first project. The "Noah" director will executive produce an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's "MaddAddam" trilogy of books, TheWrap has confirmed.

Atwood's "speculative fiction" saga about a world in which corporations have supplanted governments began in "Oryx and Crake" (2003), and continued in "The Year of the Flood" (2009)," which offered an alternative perspective of the events in the first novel. "MaddAddam" continued the story, from both books, of a world where mankind was nearly wiped out by a biological plague called "The Flood."

Aronofsky is also considering the possibility of directing the project. It is being developed through his Protozoa Pictures company. He will executive produce alongside his fiancee, Brandi-Ann Milbrandt, who brought the project to Protozoa, and Ari Handel, Protozoa Pictures' president. Atwood will serve as consulting producer.
