Debunking the week's tabloid stories

Selena Gomez may be put under the conservatorship of her mother Mandy Teefey, if the singer’s mom gets what she wants, reveals In Touch. The publication reports Teefey is “hoping for the best” for Gomez, who’s in a treatment center in Tennessee, but she’s “preparing for the worst.” As a result, she’s been “reaching out to find what it would take to get a conservatorship for Selena.”

The magazine goes on to note Teefey wants to be “named custodian of Selena and take control of her daughter’s finances and major decisions,” much like how Jamie Spears oversees Britney Spears’s life. “Mandy believes that a mental breakdown is possible if Selena doesn’t take this rehab stint seriously,” adds the outlet’s insider.

Gossip Cop, however, investigated the claim, and after digging deeper and deeper, a source close to Gomez exclusively confirmed to us that talk of her mom seeking a conservatorship is 100 percent “not true.”

Of course, we’re not surprised In Touch got it wrong. Back in 2014, for example, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid when it ran a completely untrue cover story alleging Gomez was pregnant with Justin Bieber’s baby. Sadly, two years later, the magazine’s reporting about her hasn’t gotten any better.

Beyonce and Jay Z

Beyonce and Jay Z are buying Brad Pitt’s Los Angeles home, according to OK!. The magazine notes he’s selling his house in the Los Feliz section of the city because he associates the property with Angelina Jolie and wants to move on.

A source tells the publication, “It’s just too painful for him to be in a place where there are so many happy memories.” The outlet’s insider adds, “Jay’s already toured it and he loves Brad’s aesthetic… Beyonce loves how kid-friendly it is.”

And Gossip Cop loves how absurdly insane the claim is. Regardless, we checked in with a source close to Pitt, who exclusively assures us he's not looking to sell his house now to the music superstars or anyone else for that matter. We're further told the tabloid's story is simply "not true."

Unfortunately, we're not surprised by the publication's fictitious report. Gossip Cop recently busted OK! for falsely claiming in a cover story that Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were going to have a secret reunion, during which he was going to "apologize for everything that went down" when he left her for Jolie. It may be time for the magazine to find more accurate Pitt sources.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani

Are Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton adopting a little girl? That’s what Life & Style is reporting. The magazine notes the couple is “still hashing out the details of their wedding, but it seems there’s another party they should be planning, too: a baby shower.” According to the publication, Stefani and Shelton “are moving full speed ahead with plans to start a family.”

An insider tells Life & Style, “They’ve started talking about adoption.” “It might be a baby, or it might be a toddler. But no matter what, they want to have a little girl in their arms by the end of 2017,” says the outlet’s tipster. The source adds the couple “will do whatever it takes to have a baby girl.”

But these claims are coming from the same outlet that just two weeks ago ran a whole cover story that Gossip Cop busted about how Stefani was already pregnant and marrying Shelton. Now she’s not pregnant and exploring adoption? The tabloid happens to be wrong with both scenarios.

A source close to the situation exclusively tells Gossip Cop it’s “untrue” Stefani and Shelton are looking into adopting a baby girl. Currently, there’s no such plan in the works.

FILE - In this Aug. 28, 2016 file photo, Kanye West, left, and Kim Kardashian West arrive at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. Armed robbers forced their way into a private Paris residence early Monday, Oct. 3, where Kim Kardashian West was staying and tied her up, police officials said. They said five assailants, who are still at large, stole a jewelry box containing valuables worth 6 million euros ($6.7 million) as well as a ring worth 4 million euros ($4.5 million.) Kanye West is blaming Kim Kardashian for the Paris robbery and the two may divorce over the ordeal, reveals OK!. “Ever since Kim Kardashian was the victim of a terrifying crime, she and Kanye West have been at odds,” reports the publication.

An insider tells the magazine, “They’ve been fighting nonstop since they got back from Paris.” At issue, notes the outlet, are “their different reactions” to the incident. “Kanye’s totally gone off the rails, tearing into everyone from Kris Jenner to Kim’s sisters to her bodyguard to Kim herself, blaming them all for the robbery,” offers the outlet’s source, adding, “He’s really acting out.”

West’s “ranting and raving” now has Kardashian “considering moving on from him,” asserts the publication’s insider, adding, “She prefers it when he’s away. He’s just too hard to deal with.”

This is all very dramatic and inaccurate. For starters, despite the tabloid claiming that West and Kardashian have been “fighting nonstop since they got back from Paris,” the rapper wasn’t even in France at the time of the robbery. More importantly, West doesn’t blame Kardashian for the robbery. If anything, Gossip Cop has learned, West has been very supportive of his wife. Regardless, that allegation and speculation about a divorce are “totally untrue,” his rep exclusively tells Gossip Cop.

© OK! Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to be named the next king and queen of England in a royal coronation slated to take place next year, reveals OK!. The magazine reports, “At 90, Queen Elizabeth has finally decided to give up the crown. But in a surprise move, she’s planning to pass it straight to Prince William.” “She’s arranged for the crown to skip over the next in line, Prince Charles, in favor of his son,” adds the publication.

An insider tells the outlet, “No one was more shocked than William and Kate.” “They didn’t think they’d become king and queen for another 30 years,” says the source, who offers that the $100 million coronation will be “next summer in Westminster Abbey,” and “everyone from President Obama to the Pope, as well as a smattering of celebrities,” such as Elton John, Angelina Jolie, and David and Victoria Beckham, will be in attendance.

If this tale sounds familiar, it’s because Gossip Cop has previously busted OK! three times when it made the exact same erroneous claim on its cover. Still, Gossip Cop investigated again, and the Palace exclusively assures us it did NOT “confirm” any coronation, as wrongly claimed on the new cover of the tabloid. “The Queen remains the Queen,” we’re told. There are also no plans to leapfrog Prince Charles.
