Disney's Tony To Joining Lucasfilm as Head of Production and Development

Tony To is making the switch from Walt Disney Studios to Lucasfilm, where he'll serve as head of production and development, it was announced Thursday by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

"This is such an exciting and creative time at Lucasfilm and I'm overjoyed to have Tony on board. He has unmatched production expertise and a tremendous passion for storytelling. He is a wonderful addition to the fantastic creative team we have in place to develop new content," said Kennedy.

To spent the past three years as executive VP of production at Disney, where his most recent work included managing physical production for "Maleficent."

His past experience includes co-producing the 1998 Tom Hanks miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon" for HBO and Imagine Entertainment. To also served as co-executive producer alongside Hanks and Steven Spielberg on HBO's 10-part World War II epic "Band of Brothers," as well as its follow-up, "The Pacific." Each project earned the Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries.

At Lucasfilm, To will oversee all live-action and animation production in what the company describes as one of its most creatively ambitious periods. Lucasfilm has six new films and several television projects in the works, including the highly anticipated "Star Wars: Episode VII," the upcoming animated series "Star Wars Rebels" and two recently announced stand-alone "Star Wars" films from directors Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank.

"Lucasfilm has an amazing legacy and an equally amazing future. It is an honor to be a part of such an accomplished and talented team while continuing to work with my esteemed Disney friends and colleagues," To said in a statement.

Lucasfilm is a subsidiary of Disney.
