Don't Mess With Liam Neeson

Slide 1 of 11

This Irishman is one tough, serious dude, whether he wields a gun, a lightsaber, a sword or a thunderboltBy Myriam Gabriel-PollockSpecial to MSN MoviesLiam Neeson: action hero. Does that sound weird to you? Not these days. Neeson, who became a household name with such films as "Schindler's List" (1993) and "Love Actually" (2003), seems to have undergone a transformation on the big screen. Although long regarded as a gallant and handsome leading-man type, Neeson sports a résumé that has been filling up with roles highlighting his more fearsome, kick-ass side. He's dueled with Sith lords, gone head-to-head with Batman, punched wolves and released the Kraken. But it is as Bryan Mills in "Taken" (2008) that Neeson really puts the kibosh on the bad guys, in his wildly violent mission to rescue his daughter from her twisted abductors. In the upcoming "Taken 2," which opens Oct. 5, the abductee is his ex-wife (Famke Janssen). The father of one of the kidnappers of Mills' daughter wants revenge for his son's death, but you would think by now these guys would know that Mills is not to be messed with. The trailers promise a nonstop adrenalin rush, with plenty of Mills as the killing machine the CIA trained him to be.It's astonishing to note that Neeson turned 60 this past summer. Seriously. Instead of playing sage grandfather types, he's smacking down guys half his age. Somehow we doubt he's sent in his AARP application.Let's take a look at some of Neeson's roles that have paved the way to his action hero status.Bing: More on Liam Neeson | 'Taken 2'For more movie news, follow MSN Movies on Facebook and Twitter.
