The handwritten manuscript of composer Sergei Rachmaninov's Second Symphony in E Minor, Op 27, has gone under the hammer at auction for $1.9 million (£1.2 million).The score was presumed lost after the premiere of the piece in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1908, but it was discovered in a private collection in 2004 and has been housed at the British Library since 2005. A private collector picked up the manuscript at the Sotheby's sale in London on Tuesday (20May14).
