Fox Orders Batman Prequel Gotham to Series

Fox has officially ordered Batman prequel Gotham to series, has learned.

Based on DC Comics characters, the drama explores the origin stories of the Caped Crusader's eventual ally James Gordon (Benjamin McKenzie), a detective with the Gotham City Police Department, and his battle with the villains who made the city famous.

Written by The Mentalistcreator Bruno Heller, who will also executive-produce with Nikita's Danny Cannon and John Stephens, the project previously had a series commitment at Fox. Gotham, which was named one of's most promising pilots, joins the network's previously ordered new drama series Backstrom and Hieroglyph.

The series will also star Jada Pinkett Smith, Donal Logue, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, David Mazouz, Erin Richards, Drew Powell, Zabryna Guevara, Camren Bicondova and Cory Michael Smith.
