From funny guy (or gal) to action hero

Charlie Day's turn in 'Pacific Rim' is a drastic change from 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' By Glenn Kenny Special to MSN Movies"Go Big Or Go Extinct," instructs the tagline of "Pacific Rim," the new sci-fi action epic in which giant robots battle super-nasty alien creatures. But of course you'll need a crew of manly men piloting the robots, right? Idris Elba seems to fit the bill, as do some other cast members ... but Charlie Day? The "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" guy? "Unlike my other characters, this one isn't an idiot," Day said in a recent interview. And since the character is a scientist, he may not be the most active of action heroes either ... we'll have to wait for the movie itself to find out. But funny men making the transition to credible action stars is something that has a pretty rich precedent in cinema. And the switch-hit possibility isn't limited to guys, either. Check it out.
