Funny and In Your Face

Slide 1 of 15

Margaret Cho: Cho was one of the first of this current wave of crossover funny gals. Her 1994 series, "All-American Girl," was the first major American series to feature a mostly Asian cast. The failure of that show gave her great grist for her first one-woman show, "Margaret Cho: I'm the One That I Want," recounting Hollywood's criticism of her as both "too Asian" and "not Asian enough." At one point, she says in the show, "All-American Girl" producers hired a coach to help her "become more Asian." Other one-woman tours de force include "The Notorious C.H.O.," "Revolution" and "Margaret Cho: Assassin." She's written several books, including "I Have Chosen to Stay and Fight," which, while hilarious, underscores Cho's anger at the white male power structure (better run, Andy Rooney). Cho has also dabbled in fashion design, and started performing a burlesque/belly dance show, "The Sensuous Woman," which she's taken on the road. (Dan Dion/Retna Ltd.)
