The would-be robber, a 29-year-old Romanian man, only managed to steal a bottle of wine that was sitting in an alcove near the wine cellar, before staff that work at the estate noticed the intruder and alerted authorities.

The man did attempt to access the house after nabbing the wine, but authorities arrived before the man was able to gain entry.

The man, who was believed to already be drunk, threatened law enforcement with the bottle, brandishing it as a weapon, but was eventually overpowered and placed under arrest.

The man was charged with theft, and a speedy trial was held on Thursday, May 22, in which he was convicted and sentenced to eight months' probation.

Clooney, 53, was not at the estate at the time of the incident.
