6/17/2014

Monster movie Godzilla has conquered the box office on both sides of the Atlantic by topping the chart in Britain just days after destroying its rivals in the U.S. The remake, starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, recorded U.K. opening weekend (16-18May14) sales figures of $10 million (£6.3 million), dwarfing hit comedy Neighbors, which took just $2.2 million (£1.4 million). The news is a double delight for Godzilla after the blockbuster raked in a massive $93.2 million (£58.2 million) during its opening weekend in the U.S. Superhero sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 dropped one place to third on the U.K. chart, with takings of $718,000 (£449,000), and the top five was rounded out by The Other Woman, which netted $713,000 (£446,000), and The Two Faces of January, with $524,000 (£328,000).
