Katherine Jenkins pens newspaper tribute to late friend

6/17/2014

Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins has paid a touching tribute to her late best friend, who died earlier this month (May14). Jenkins was left devastated when her closest pal Polly Noble lost her battle with cervical cancer at the age of 32. The mezzo-soprano has channelled her emotions into a heartfelt tribute about Noble and her eight-year ordeal in an article published in Britain's Daily Mail newspaper on Monday (26May14). In the tribute, Jenkins writes, "From the start of this year it became clear that her illness had taken a more serious turn... You'd never know it, but I suspect she was often in pain. I say 'suspect' because we didn't talk about her illness. Why? Well, Polly was determined to lead as normal a life as possible. She insisted on it. So we never talked about her dying and we never had a 'goodbye' conversation... "Then, the week before she died, she texted me to say doctors had discovered seven new tumours. She wrote: 'You probably don't want to know how bad it is, but I have to tell you. I don't want to talk about it, I just want us to think of good and happy times.'...We kept in touch all week. And then she died on the Sunday." Jenkins, whose father died from cancer when she was aged 15, wrote about her experience with Noble as part of her role as an ambassador for Macmillan Cancer Support.
