Then again, even in this golden age for theatrical television, some stars still can't resist the urge to cash in on the latest trashy biopic torn from recent news headlines (hello, Rob Lowe). There's no denying that the golden age for this sensational subgenre was in the 1980s and '90s, when the likes of Long Island Lolita Amy Fisher or so-called "Preppie Killer" Robert Chambers provided tantalizing fodder for programming execs. This also happened to overlap with the Lifetime Network's rise to prominence as the pre-eminent dramatizer of all things pertaining to women scorned.
