Former Bikini Kill star Kathleen Hanna has scrapped her band The Julie Ruin's European tour after suffering a Lyme Disease relapse.

The rocker's condition forced her to step away from the spotlight for many years, but she returned last year with a new act and she was looking forward to touring Europe when she fell ill again recently.

A statement from the star's management company reads: "She is currently having a relapse and has been advised by her doctor to start a difficult 3-month course of treatment immediately. The treatment plan will make it impossible for her to travel. The Julie Ruin are disappointed to postpone these appearances, however they are confident that taking this time off will allow Hanna to heal so that they can continue touring in the future."

The European tour was billed to start in Germany on May 17. The Julie Ruin have also scrapped appearances at Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival in July and the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival in Calgary.
