Matt Damon warns conservative fans not to see Behind the Candelabra

6/16/2014

Actor Matt Damon has warned fans his upcoming TV movie Behind The Candelabra will not be suitable for everyone because the biopic about the flamboyant pianist features a large amount of nudity. The Bourne Identity star is known for his all-round appeal, but he admits that his portrayal of Liberace's gay lover may be a little too much to bear for his more conservative devotees. He tells the new issue of Playboy magazine, "Normally I'd say no to nudity, but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace. I mean, it's tastefully done... But this movie's not going to be for everyone." Damon stars opposite Michael Douglas, who portrays the flamboyant entertainer, and he reveals they discussed strategy in detail to determine how they would play out their love scenes onscreen. He says, "I had to come out of the pool, go over to Michael Douglas, straddle him on a chaise lounge and start kissing him. It's not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan." And Damon is full of praise for his leading man's romance skills, adding: "Michael was a wonderful kisser." Behind the Candelabra is set to air on America's HBO network next year (13).
