Morrissey gets radio soap invite

6/17/2014

Rocker Morrissey is considering an offer to appear as a character in the world's longest-running radio soap opera. The former The Smiths frontman has been approached by producers of BBC show The Archers, which first aired in 1950 and has been broadcast as a daily weekday show since 1951. Morrissey admits he is "fascinated" by the offer to appear in the drama, which centres on the residents of a fictional rural English village. In a statement, a representative for the Suedehead hitmaker writes, "Morrissey has been invited to appear in The Archers, which is the world's longest-running radio soap opera. The Archers has on average five million listeners per week... The Archers is the most popular show on Radio 4, and is considered to be a British institution. Morrissey is said to be 'fascinated' by the offer."
