By Jethro Nededog

MTV has renewed its freshman comedy "Faking It" for a second season.

The renewal arrives just ahead of its season finale on Tuesday and after producing impressive numbers for the cable channel.

The comedy is currently the highest-rated new series launch on MTV this year. It averages a 1.5 rating among the network's target demographic persons ages 12-34 and 1.4 million total viewers each week. It also retains nearly 90 percent of its 10 p.m. lead-in, "Awkward."

"Faking It" was created by Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov. It's executive-produced by Carter Covington ("10 Things I Hate About You," "Greek" "Hart of Dixie").

The comedy stars Katie Stevens, Rita Volk, Gregg Sulkin, Michael Willett and Bailey Buntain.
