The Netherlands may be a small country, but it’s attracting a growing number of foreign producers with its famous Amsterdam canals, old towns, modern architecture, and international port activity – not to mention a 30% cash rebate on qualified spending.

Known for its progressive politics and social programs, the Netherlands is surrounded by some Euro giants. It’s close to the U.K. and France, and borders Germany. Its North Sea coast offers sweeping water vistas and sandy shorelines.

Its largest city – Amsterdam – is known the world over for an easy, tolerant lifestyle, which includes legalized marijuana and controlled prostitution in the famous red-light districts. But Amsterdam is also known for its vibrant cultural life of museums and performances, and its picturesque canals.

Other cities that beckon film and TV projects includes The Hague, which is the seat of the Dutch government, and Rotterdam, with its modern buildings and impressive port facilities.

The Netherlands offers a generous 30% cash rebate on qualified spend. Minimum spend per film must be 1 million euros (about $1,060,000). For documentaries the minimum spend is 250,000 euros (about $265,000).

The program carries an annual cap of 29,200,000 million euros (about $30,900,000). It includes a set of 10 cultural criteria, of which only three need to be met.

Recent projects shot or shooting in the Netherlands include “Dunkirk” (2017), “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” (2017), “Carol” (2015), “Kidnapping Mr. Heineken” (2015), and “The Fault in our Stars” (2014).
