NFL Reveals Logos for Super Bowl 50, Dumps Roman Numerals (Photos)

After next year, everyone will actually know what number Super Bowl we're on for once.

The National Football League released logos for Super Bowl 50 on Wednesday, dropping the Roman numeral regularly associated with the game.

But don't fret Latin fans: the following year, the Roman numerals will be back for Feb. 2017's Super Bowl LI  in Houston.

Roman numerals were first used for Super Bowl V (Jan. 1971).

Super Bowl 50, slated for Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, will take place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

There were two new logos unveiled on Wednesday: one for national use and one for regional.

Nationally, a gold "50" paired with the silver Lomabrdi Trophy reflects the host region's historic Gold Rush in the broader setting of the Golden State, the NFL said in a press release.

The regional logo has more local detail, with the championship trophy flanked by the stadium, and the Transamerica Pyramid, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, San Francisco Ferry Building, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge and Redwood trees from the Muir Woods National Monument "ghosted" by fog in the background.
