Nicolas Cage and Jack Huston are hoping to earn buyers' "trust" at Cannes this year.

The Oscar-winner and "Boardwalk Empire" star have signed on to lead Alex and Ben Brewer's crime thriller "The Trust," which will hawk its worldwide rights at this year's unusually thin market.

The film, from a script by Ben Brewer and Alex Hirsch, focuses on "two evil cops who discover a strangely hidden and guarded safe filled with mysterious contents," according to a sales release. "Their lust for it unexpectedly thrusts them into a deadly well of corruption leaving them fighting for their lives and unsure of who to trust."

Molly Hassell and Braxton Pope are producing the film, while Mike Nilon will executive produce. Electric Shadow Fund is providing finance, while Highland Film Group's Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier are executive producing and  handling worldwide sales.

Cage earned strong reviews for his role in David Gordon Green's southern drama "Joe," which released earlier this year, while Huston played a crucial part in last year's "American Hustle."
