Royalties dispute over Hippy Hippy Shake

6/17/2014

Iconic Sixties classic Hippy Hippy Shake is at the centre of a royalties dispute. The track was written and released by Chan Romero in 1959 and made famous with numerous cover versions, most notably by The Swinging Blue Jeans and a live rendition by The Beatles. Now it has emerged at least five different parties - including Romero - are making a claim for royalties from the pop song, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.com. Bosses at Universal Music Group have filed documents asking a judge to rule on who should receive the money. Hippy Hippy Shake earned $5,368 (£3,355) in U.S. royalties in the final six months of 2013.
