Slide 1 of 5

Summer GlauAt a glance: She's a 29-year-old actress who hails from San Antonio. Sci-fi claims to fame: She co-starred on "Firefly" (2002-03) as one-time child prodigy River Tam. She later co-starred in "Firefly's" movie spin-off "Serenity" (2005). Glau went on to play Tess Doerner, a paranoid schizophrenic with frightening mind-control powers on USA's "The 4400" (2005-07). She gained the most attention and acclaim as Cameron Phillips (2008-09) on "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." On the show, her character is sent back in time to protect a young John Connor (Thomas Dekker). Glau also appeared on the second season of "Dollhouse," making it her third gig with Joss Whedon. Her first was as a guest star on "Angel." Why she's perfect for this genre: Glau has an uncanny ability to appear cold and detached. She is also very convincing in fight scenes. What's next: Look for her in "The Cape" on NBC in 2011. Glau will also voice Supergirl in the Sony videogame "DC Universe Online." ('Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles'/FOX)
