Spring Break forever.

Paris-based production company Wild Bunch is bringing "Spring Breakers: The Second Coming" to the Cannes Film Festival, Screen Daily reported Tuesday.

"It's not a direct sequel, although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original," Wild Bunch co-founder Vincent Maraval told Screen Daily.

The sequel, in which the Spring Breakers "do battle with an extreme militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them" will not be directed by original writer/director Harmony Korine, but by Swedish director Jonas Akerlund, who's primarily known for memorable music videos like Madonna's "Ray of Light" and Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" and "Telephone."

No word yet on if any of the 2013 film's stars -- Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine -- will make an appearance, though James Franco, who memorably played rapper/gangster Alien, first hinted at a sequel in September.

"I mean, Harmony [Korine] and I are certainly going to do something else together," he told MTV. " ... When we were making the movie, there was talk of a prequel. My character and Gucci Mane's character were supposed to have been former friends, so we at one time talked about, 'What was that like? Let's make that movie!' So there's that. There's a prequel version, or there's the version of Alien's friend or something. I don't know."

The controversial "Spring Breakers" was one of the most buzzed-about films in 2013 thanks to Franco's much-praised performance as Alien, as well as the racy roles taken on by Disney darlings Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. It earned $31 million worldwide.
