Steve Harvey To Warren Beatty: “Call Me”

Until last night’s epic Oscar gaffe involving presenters Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, the Best Picture Oscar winner and a certain wrong envelope, the last awards-show emcee to preside over a mix-up approaching this magnitude was Steve Harvey. Remember it was Harvey who in December inadvertently announced the wrong winner of the Miss Universe pageant during that live show in Las Vegas.

Harvey didn’t miss a beat this morning, effectively passing the torch to Beatty:

Beatty of course is mostly off the hook for last night’s snafu, when he and Dunaway announced La La Land had won the Oscars’ marquee category. It turns out the Academy’s accountant PricewaterhouseCoopers handed them the wrong envelope as they headed to the stage — and Moonlight was the winner. Chaos ensued as the mistake was being figured out, with both films’ teams onstage at one point at the same time and Beatty, La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz and host Jimmy Kimmel all trying to apologize.

Beatty took the microphone at one point to explain the error, much like Harvey, who to his credit said after his mistake (when he simply announced the wrong winner): “Folks, let me take control of this,” Harvey said onstage, showing the correct winner on his card.

This morning, though, you could see the “been there, pal” tone in Harvey’s tweet, and his good-sport mentality.
