Rap artist YG has been added to the cast of Studio 8’s upcoming crime drama White Boy Rick, from director Yann Demange. It stars teenage newcomer Richie Merritt and Matthew McConaughey as a blue-collar father and son, who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison. YG will play Leo Curry in the film set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs. Leo is a notorious drug dealer and Eastside cocaine kingpin who along with his twin brother Johnny Curry mentored Rick. Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bel Powley, Piper Laurie, Rory Cochrane, and Brian Tyree Henry co-star. Studio 8’s Jon Silk is overseeing the project while John Lesher, LBI Entertainment’s Julie Yorn, Protozoa Pictures’ Darren Aronofsky and Scott Franklin are producing. YG, known for tracks like Toot It And Boot It and Why You Always Hatin? featuring Drake, is repped by UTA, Ceremony of Roses and Sedlmayr & Associates, P.C.

DeRon Horton has joined the romantic drama/offbeat comedy indie Shotgun, which stars Maika Monroe and Jeremy Allen White. Helmed by first time directors Hannah Marks and Joey Power, the film follows Elliot (White) and Mia (Monroe) as they develop a fast relationship after one of them is diagnosed with a life-changing illness. Producers are Yale Productions’ Jordan Yale along with Jordan Beckerman, Michael J. Rothstein, Ash Christian and WYSJ Media’s Sean Glover. Horton, who will play Nico in the film, appears in two Netflix originals; the Dear White People series, based on Justin Simien’s 2014 film, and frat boy film Burning Sands, which is currently streaming. He is repped by ICM, Gallant Management and Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown.
