Summer geek-out 2013

Slide 1 of 21

Could this summer be the biggest of all for fans of sci-fi and superheroes?By Don KayeSpecial to MSN MoviesThe summer movie season officially kicks off on May 3 with the arrival of "Iron Man 3," Marvel Studios' follow-up to last year's blockbuster "The Avengers" and the first of the studio's "Phase Two" series of films. This season's got a little bit of everything for the dedicated follower of all things fan boy (and fan girl): more superhero epics ("Man of Steel," "The Wolverine"), long-awaited sequels ("Star Trek Into Darkness"), giant monster battles ("Pacific Rim"), original science fiction ("Elysium") and quality horror ("The Conjuring").Some, like "Iron Man 3," are as close to a sure thing as any studio exec would want, while others come with large price tags and even larger questions about their box-office pull (like both "The Lone Ranger" and "Pacific Rim," though for different reasons). When you put this in the context of an overall box-office slump that seems to have gripped Hollywood for the first four months of the year, it's clear that this summer, perhaps more than past ones, has a lot on the line.Bing: More about 'Iron Man 3' | More about 'Man of Steel' | Related: 'Iron Man' villainsSo let's look at the big geek-friendly releases coming out between May and August and size them up, starting with old Shellhead himself and ending with -- what else? -- the end of the world. What geek-out movie are you most excited to see?
