Survival of the sexiest

Slide 1 of 11

All's fair in the cutthroat universe of dating competition showsBy Robert IsenbergSpecial to MSN TVIf you take away the nice restaurants, the fancy clothes and the long walks on the beach, dating is really just a bunch of lusty mammals competing for mates. Love is patient, love is kind, but if you want to keep prime-time TV interesting, there'd better be some bitter competition -- and some off-set zingers to boot.As "Ready for Love" premieres on NBC, we decided to trace the evolution (so to speak) of the dating game show. In this Darwinian world, you don't have to be smart, modest or thoughtful, just aggressively appealing, because only the sexiest survive. Here are some of our favorite shows that feature courtship as blood sport."Ready for Love"If you want to slum it, try Internet dating. If you're a high roller, hire a "professional matchmaker." And if you're an "international financier," you could star on "Ready for Love," a show about three handsome, successful men and their search for perfect heterosexual life-mates. "Every woman is eligible," declares the promo — as in, every woman anywhere. Who would have guessed Tim Lopez of the Plain White T's needed to scour the planet, or that a muscular philanthropist could be so picky? Let's hope, after such a thorough search and the aid of pro consultants, that these loves last.Bing: More about 'Ready for Love' | More about Tim Lopez"Ready for Love" premieres Tuesdya, April 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.(NBC)
