Kate Winslet explains why she named her son Bear BlazeThough Kate Winslet chose Mia and Joe for her first children's names, her son with Ned Rocknroll was awarded the unusual moniker Bear Blaze -- not that we were surprised, given the celebritot's pop's handpicked surname."Bear's second name is Blaze because my husband and I met in a house fire basically," the actress told Ellen DeGeneres on Monday, referring to the fire that broke out on Necker Island, where Winslet and Richard Branson's nephew were vacationing when they first met. "The house burned down and we survived. But we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with. Bear Blaze."She went on to say that she and Rocknroll chose Bear Blaze "early on" in her pregnancy. "A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear and I just had always really loved it," Winslet explained (via the Daily Mail). "And he was very much a bear. He was everyone's shoulder to cry on he was a big bear hug, he was a great figure in my life and I just had always remembered him and so that's where it came from.'As for her husband's name, which he legally changed from Abel Smith to Ned Rocknroll, Winslet said, "People who know Ned they know he's very much about irony and living life and having fun so he changed it to Rocknroll. He did do it before he met me."Asked if she'd have objected had he changed it while they were involved, Winslet quipped, "No. I have to say that don't I?" She then reminded DeGeneres that Bear Blaze is a Winslet, not a Rocknroll. (And somewhere out there, little Bear issued a loud, baby-mouthed "Phew.")
