The Shortlist for Oct. 25

Slide 1 of 7

Jay Z's forthcoming designer Barneys collection under fire following racial profiling uproarOn Nov. 20, Brooklyn native Jay Z is scheduled to launch a line of luxury items including a $33,900 Shawn Carter by Hublot watch, a $675 raincoat and a $70 T-shirt. But some fans are protesting the collection -- and their issue is not the price. The venture is a collaboration with Barneys, the store where two other Brooklynites -- Trayon Christian, 19, and Kayla Phillips, 21 -- were recently accused of credit card fraud when they attempted to buy expensive items in two separate incidents. Both Christian and Phillips are black, and told the Daily News they believe they were questioned by Barney's staff and by police because of their skin color. After their stories made headlines, a petition surfaced, calling for Jay Z to halt production on his Barneys products."Jay Z should be appalled by Barneys actions, and withdraw all support from them," the petition reads. "If he does this, he will send a clear message to all corporations that are like minded, that this behavior cannot be tolerated any longer."
